ADAPT

Independent Living Research Utilization (ILRU)
Description: The ILRU program is a national center for information, training, research, and technical assistance in independent living. Its goal is to expand the body of knowledge in independent living and to improve utilization of results of research programs and demonstration projects in this field. It is a program of TIRR (The Institute for Rehabilitation and Research), a nationally recognized medical rehabilitation facility for persons with disabilities.

Institute on Independent Living
Description: Serving self-help organizations of disabled people who work for equal opportunities, self-determination and self-respect. They offer training materials, technical assistance and information on personal assistance, advocacy, access, legislation and peer support.

Description: The Job Accommodation Network (JAN) is an international toll-free consulting service that provides information about job accommodations and the employability of people with functional limitations.

Justice for All
Description: Justice For All and the JFA E-mail Network were formed to defend and advance disability rights and programs in the 104th Congress. One JFA goal is to work with national and state organizations of people with disabilities to get the word from Washington D.C. out to the grassroots. National Council on Disability
Description: The National Council on Disability (NCD) is an independent federal agency making recommendations to the President and Congress on issues affecting 54 million Americans with disabilities. NCD's overall purpose is to promote policies, programs, practices, and procedures that guarantee equal opportunity for all individuals with disabilities, regardless of the nature or severity of the disability; and to empower individuals with disabilities to achieve economic self-sufficiency, independent living, and inclusion and integration into all aspects of society.

National Council on Independent Living (NCIL)
Description:The National Council on Independent Living is a membership organization that advances the independent living philosophy and advocates for the human rights of, and services for, people with disabilities to further their full integration and participation in society.

National Federation of the Blind
Description: The National Federation of the Blind provides public education about blindness, information and referral services, scholarships, literature and publications about blindness, aids and appliances and other adaptive equipment for the blind, advocacy services and protection of civil rights, and support for blind persons and their families.

The National Institute on Disability and Rehabilitation Research (NIDRR)
The National Institute on Disability and Rehabilitation Research (NIDRR) provides leadership and support for a comprehensive program of research related to the rehabilitation of individuals with disabilities. National Organization on Disability (NOD)
Description: The National Organization on Disability (N.O.D.) promotes the full participation of America's 49 million persons with disabilities in all aspects of life.

National Rehabilitation Information Center (NARIC)
Description: This site offers a searchable database of all the research published by the National Institute on Disability Research, an annotated bibliography of ADA publications, an explanation of NARIC and links to other related sites.

New Freedom Initiative
This site is dedicated to providing visitors with information about one of the priorities of the Bush administration: eliminating the barriers that prevent people with disabilities from participating fully in community life. The New Freedom Initiative provides a comprehensive, government-wide framework for achieving that goal.

Description: The purpose of this site is to provide the consumer with answers to questions that they may have about the Commission, their procedures and their role within Pennsylvania.
